Productions PRESS RELEASE 21.11.2005 Kekäläinen & Company starts the jubilee year 2006 with CREATURE and Unidentified dancer The year 2006 is special for dance theatre Kekäläinen & Company. In March it will be ten years since the first performance of the theatre. In January K&C brings two new pieces on stage, CREATURE and Unidentified dancer. The theme is conflict between individuals and environment. The works concentrate on identity and roles and the pressure and restrictions groups place on them. CREATURE and Unidentified dancer speculate central existential challenges of a modern human being: Is it possible that people would form communities without demanding its members any particular identity, that being whoever could be the starting point of existing together. CREATURE outlines what the personal space and its emotional life would then be. CREATURE is life in a body as being whoever. As an inspiration to the choreography Sanna Kekäläinen has used the texts of the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben and the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector. ”As a starting point I wanted to take two completely different works, a philosophical study of a man and a work of fiction written by a woman. Philosopher Giorgio Agamben's work ’The Coming Community’ and writer Clarice Lispector's prose ’The Hour of the Star’ talk about the same thing, the former with concepts and the latter from the viewpoint of life that has abandoned all suppression,” choreographer Sanna Kekäläinen says. CREATURE and Unidentified dancer play consciously with roles and the expectations attached to them. They reflect a community and its mechanisms especially from the women's point of view. CREATURE is danced by Katri Soini and Sanna Kekäläinen. In Unidentified dancer we see dancer Agnese Vanaga. The premiere of the productions is on the 10th of January 2006. The performances are co-produced with Stoa, the Cultural Centre of Eastern Helsinki.
