Each era has its own fateful question. In our time this question arises from the climate crisis, mass extinction and the violence that characterizes our age.
Therefore, we should expect from the performing arts new principles arising from this question .
Shared Space And Things We Need suggests sharing and hospitality as such. Kekäläinen & Company’s new work continues the series of topical contemporary dance works by choreographer Sanna Kekäläinen. Using Kekäläinen’s Open Score method and technique, the work lives and transforms into new possibilities, encounters and experiences, extending also to objects and materials.
Choreographer and director Sanna Kekäläinen is an undisputed pioneer of contempomporary dance in Finland. Kekäläinen has created over 70 stage works that have been performed in Finland and internationally. Her work expands the experience of a dance performance by combining philosophy, climate change, gender diversity and feminism. In her work, multifaceted expression and conceptual thinking are combined with strongly physical and unique movement language.
Kekäläinen & Company is a contemporary dance theatre with a mission to to promote dance as an intellectual art form with strong potential in political and poetic communication. Since its founding in 1996, Kekäläinen & Company’s works have been characterized as bold, thought-provoking and uncompromisingly high quality both in Finland and abroad.
