
Kekäläinen & Company’s 30th Anniversary Year Continues!
Merkityksen päivä (Day of Significance) at Laterna Magica, a residency guest from South Korea, a festival performance in Portugal — and the title reveal of the company’s major anniversary production.
The 30th anniversary year of K&C Kekäläinen & Company, founded in 1996, began with the ant-themed works Conversas com Formigas and Formica Fusca in Portugal and Finland. We are now delighted to share highlights from May and June.
Merkityksen päivä (Day of Significance) at Helsinki’s Laterna Magica, May 27th – June 4th
Premiering on Wednesday, May 27th, Merkityksen päivä (Day of Significance) is a choreographed performance event created specifically for the exhibition space of Laterna Magica.
The work is the second part of K&C Kekäläinen & Company’s poetic, conceptual and movement-based performance series paying tribute to the work of poet Gunnar Björling. The performers are acclaimed performance artists Annette Arlander, Sanna Kekäläinen and Janne Saarakkala.
Exploring themes of longing, love and life, the piece forms part of the company’s broader Björling-inspired performance cycle.

Residency and Presentation by South Korean Choreographer and Performance Artist Hany Park — Sat 30 May
South Korean choreographer and performance artist Hany Park arrives in Helsinki for K&C’s Keidas residency programme to develop a new work examining the lives of singles and couples in Seoul, Helsinki and Indonesia, as well as the ways emotions connected to love relate to social and cultural structures.
Park, who has previously visited Finland, has presented works at major South Korean venues including the Asia Culture Center and Incheon Art Platform.
At the end of the two-week residency, Hany Park will give a presentation at K&C Space in Cable Factory on Saturday, May 30 at 17:00. Free admission.
Formigas Solo as Part of a Portuguese Urban Festival
The international project launched in 2025 continues in Portugal with the new work Formigas Solo, premiering on June 20 as part of an urban festival in Leiria.
Produced by Leirena Teatro, the performance features Frédéric (Fred) Da Cruz Pires together with sound designer Surma. Direction and choreography are by Sanna Kekäläinen, with text by Kari Hukkila.
The work is part of a long-term four-partner collaboration project led by Sanna Kekäläinen, continuing after Portugal in Spain and Finland during 2027–2028.

And finally — the title of K&C Kekäläinen & Company’s major anniversary production has now been revealed: Hysteria Mundi – Improvisations on Global Politics. Premiering at Aleksanterin Teatteri on December 1, 2026. More information about this major new production will be announced in early autumn.
