Kekäläinen & Company’s Conversations with Ants Evening will premiere in Finland in November at K&C Space. Tickets are now on sale!
Ants are humans are a certain kind of doubles: only ants and humans have spread across the entire globe, with the exception of the northern and southern polar regions. There have also been speculative estimates that the combined weight of all humans and the combined weight of all ants are close to each other.
However, there is one significant difference between ants and humans: if all humans suddenly disappeared from the Earth, it would take a long time for the biosphere to recover from the damage caused by humans. If ants disappeared from the biosphere, it would quickly become uninhabitable.
Sanna Kekäläinen is working with author Kari Hukkila with the aim of linking the principles of ants’ work and activity to the era of the Anthropocene.
The concept of the work centers on the idea of visitor which entails the aspect that we humans are visitors on the edge of the insect world. Local performers will visit the work and continue the performance event with their own presentations. On the November evening in Helsinki, Kekäläinen’s work Conversations with Ants Evening will be followed by Ordinary Matters, a work by local guest choreographer Heli Keskikallio.
Conversations with Ants Evening is part of a collaborative project led by choreographer Sanna Kekäläinen. The first phase of the work was realized in Portugal in September 2025 at the Muscarium#11 festival in collaboration with Teatro Mosca, Leirena Teatro (Portugal), and Colectivo Glovo (Spain).

The evening is part of the Focus on the Local Landscape – Paikallisjälkiä program within the framework of the Liikkeellä marraskuussa festival: November 8 at 6:30 p.m. / November 9 at 4 p.m. / November 12 at 7 p.m. / November 14 at 7 p.m.
