Merkityksen päivä is a choreographed poem event taking place at Laterna Magic in Helsinki 27.5.–4.6.2026.
Merkityksen päivä (Day of Significance) is the second part of an event series by K&C Kekäläinen & Company which pays homage to the poet Gunnar Björling’s work. Performers Annette Arlander, Sanna Kekäläinen and Janne Saarakkala are renowned artists in performance art.
The first part of the series took place successfully in January 2024 at the Helsinki Observatory. Gunnar Björling was a Finnish-Swedish poet and frontrunner of Nordic modernism. Björling’s homosexuality shines through in his work and actions during a time when normativity was strongly enforced in society. In the recent years, his work has finally received the acknowledgement it deserves.
